Pregnancy-related Back/Pelvic Pain

Pregnancy brings many changes, but back and pelvic pain shouldn’t be something you just "deal with." As your body adapts to support a growing baby, your posture, center of gravity, and hormones all shift. This often leads to discomfort in the lower back, hips, pelvis, or SI joint, especially in the second and third trimesters. The good news? Physical therapy is a safe and effective way to manage pain and feel more supported throughout your pregnancy.

At Sparq Physical Therapy in Castle Rock, CO, we specialize in pregnancy-safe care designed to relieve pain, improve function, and prepare your body for birth and beyond. Every session is one-on-one, gentle, and tailored to your needs and trimester.

Affected Area

Pregnancy-related pain commonly affects the lumbar spine (lower back), sacroiliac (SI) joints, hips, pubic symphysis, pelvic floor, and core stabilizers. Changes in posture and ligament laxity due to relaxin can also lead to tension in the glutes, hamstrings, and abdominal wall.

Symptoms

Symptoms may include sharp or aching pain in the lower back, hip pain, pain that wraps around to the front of the pelvis, pubic bone tenderness (especially when rolling over or walking), difficulty standing or sitting for long periods, pain with lifting or bending, or pressure in the pelvic floor. Discomfort often increases as pregnancy progresses.

Treatments

Prenatal physical therapy can significantly reduce pain and improve comfort throughout pregnancy, while also preparing your body for labor and delivery. At Sparq PT, your personalized treatment may include:

  • Gentle manual therapy to relieve joint and muscle tension

  • Pelvic floor awareness and training to support labor prep and prevent leaking

  • Core and hip stabilization exercises that are safe for all trimesters

  • Postural support and body mechanics training for daily tasks and baby prep

  • Breathwork and movement strategies to manage pressure and improve alignment

  • Education on support belts, sleeping positions, and activity modification

Our goal is to help you feel strong, supported, and confident in your body throughout pregnancy, and ready for what’s next.
