Vestibular Neuritis

Vestibular neuritis is a condition that affects the vestibular nerve, which sends balance and spatial orientation signals from your inner ear to your brain. When this nerve becomes inflamed—often after a viral infection—it can result in sudden, intense vertigo, imbalance, and difficulty focusing your vision. Although hearing is usually unaffected, the impact on balance and stability can be overwhelming and disruptive to daily life. At Sparq Physical Therapy in Castle Rock, CO, we specialize in helping patients recover from vestibular neuritis with personalized, evidence-based treatment plans. Our 1-on-1 care model ensures that you receive the focused attention and support you need to regain your confidence and stability—without feeling rushed or overlooked.

Affected Area
Vestibular neuritis primarily affects the inner ear and vestibular nerve, but symptoms can influence how the brain processes balance and movement. Over time, this condition can also lead to compensatory issues involving the eyes, neck, and muscles responsible for posture and gait, as your body tries to adapt.
Symptoms

Vestibular neuritis often starts suddenly and may be accompanied by a range of symptoms including intense dizziness, vertigo (a spinning sensation), difficulty maintaining balance, nausea, vomiting, and trouble focusing the eyes. Symptoms can be severe in the first few days and gradually improve, but some people experience lingering issues with dizziness or imbalance that physical therapy can address.

Treatments

Physical therapy plays a key role in helping your brain adapt and recover from vestibular dysfunction. At Sparq PT, we create a customized vestibular rehabilitation plan based on your symptoms, lifestyle, and goals. Our treatment may include: Gaze stabilization exercises to retrain your eyes and inner ear to work together Balance training to reduce fall risk and improve postural control Habituation techniques to help your brain adapt to motion sensitivity Functional movement retraining so you can safely return to everyday activities Education and strategies to manage symptoms and support recovery at home With expert guidance and consistent support, many patients experience significant improvement in balance, reduction in dizziness, and a return to normal activities.
